Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Do I need a prescription from my doctor?

Not necessarily! The “Direct Access” Law in NJ allows for most patients to be seen for up to 30 days without a referral.

However, there are still some insurances that require a prescription for PT.

Our team will verify your benefits prior to your first appointment to let you know if you can be seen without a prescription!

What should I bring with me?

-Insurance Card
-ID/License
-Prescription/ Referral
-Form of payment (Cash, Check, Card Payment, ApplePay)
-Completed Paperwork

Prior to your Evaluation you will receive an email with attached intake forms to complete and submit online. You will have the option to upload photos of your insurance card, ID, and referral with your intake forms.

If you don’t get a chance to complete the paperwork prior to your appointment you can access a printable version here: Your First Visit

What should I wear?

We recommend wearing the same clothes that you would wear to the gym. If you have a knee or ankle injury wear shorts or loose fitting pants.

What are my insurance benefits?

We accept most major insurance plans. If your insurance plan isn’t listed, it may still be accepted.

How many visits will I need to attend?

The number of physical therapy visits varies depending on your insurance benefits, condition, goals, and progress.

Most patients attend 2–3 sessions per week at the start, and total treatment can range from 4–12 weeks, though some conditions may require longer.

Your physical therapist will create a personalized plan and adjust it as you improve, ensuring you get the right care without unnecessary visits.

What should I expect during my first visit?

During your first visit, you will sit down with your Doctor of Physical Therapy and discuss your medical history, your current injury, and your goals. You will go through a series of functional tests that will allow us to understand your current limitations.

How long is an appointment?

Each visit is about an hour. Visit times may vary depending on your injury/condition, and the amount of exercises you have.

What is "Medical Fitness"?

Medical Fitness is a program that we have at Spectrum PT for our past and current patients. This program allows for patients to bridge the gap between rehab and fitness. Medical Fitness Patients pay a monthly membership fee to use the facility as a gym space. Post Rehab Warriors can work out under the supervision of their Physical Therapist and continue to receive guided exercises as they progress.

Can I just come in for a massage?

While massage may be included in your plan, we don’t offer massage only services. Our clinic focuses on therapeutic, goal-oriented care.

Massage may be part of your care plan to help you recover, restore movement, and prevent future pain.

While hands-on therapy is included, we combine it with movement assessment, corrective exercise, and individualized programming to ensure lasting results.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that life happens and sometimes appointments must be rescheduled. To respect your time, and the time of our other patients and therapists,  we do have a $50 fee for appointments canceled within 24 hours or missed (no-show) appointments.

If you need to cancel within 24 hours of your appointment time, you’re always welcome to reschedule for the next business day to avoid the fee.

This policy helps us provide consistent, timely care for all our patients while keeping our schedule running smoothly.
